Our 2024 ENG(INE) Awardees

Reclaiming Tech for Social Good

Technology dominates the S&P 500: the index’s 6 largest stocks are all technology companies at the bleeding edge of information and entertainment, computing and hardware, and digital commerce. Whether you consider the 9 months it took TikTok to grow to 100M users worldwide, or the 2 months it took ChatGPT to do the same a few years later, the scale of technological development and adoption is awe-inspiring. Yet despite such commercial success, the world of technological innovation remains, largely, a tale of two cities: well-funded big tech companies and startups deploy the most cutting-edge tools to delight customers, while nonprofit and civic institutions work with what they have and risk falling further behind.

That’s where Nonprofit ENG(INE) is challenging the status quo. In launching this program earlier this year, we believed that the gap in technology adoption between for-profit enterprises and nonprofits had less to do with desire or utility and far more with funding, talent, and technical constraints. And today, we’re excited to share updates on the program’s progress and a preview of the impact its forthcoming grant recipients are looking to make.

Project Goals

PPFA aims to increase engagement with digital and underserved communities in the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) space, helping users access what they need from us more efficiently. In conjunction with AlleyCorp and ENG(INE), we will exponentially enhance our NLP/AI capabilities to implement a bot for comprehensively serving our sexual and reproductive health education and care seekers.

“We are excited to partner with AlleyCorp and ENG(INE) in helping us advance the next generation of our AI-powered chat program and enhancing the experience for millions of users as they navigate Planned Parenthood’s digital ecosystem for sexual and reproductive health information, seeking care and supporting our organization’s mission.”

— Dawn Laguens
Chief Global Strategy and Innovation Officer
Planned Parenthood

Project Goals

Upsolve aims to improve financial security for low-income families by relieving debt and rebuilding credit through Upsolve Assist, our AI-backed financial counselor, developed alongside AlleyCorp and ENG(INE). Through this partnership, we are building the first version of Upsolve's Credit Assistant that will help low-income Americans increase their credit scores at scale.

"We're excited to partner with ENG(INE) to bring Upsolve Assist’s credit rebuilding capability to life for Upsolve's 2.9 million annual site visitors. ENG(INE)'s expertise in engineering and UX design will help us develop the most effective financial support possible as we expand our reach among low-income families."

Project Goals

Recidiviz is partnering with AlleyCorp and ENG(INE) to develop new features for our assistant tools for line staff at criminal justice agencies. This will involve explorations of how natural language processing can reduce the administrative burdens on staff and support them to have more rehabilitative engagements with the people under their supervision, reducing recidivism and avoiding unnecessary incarceration.

"We're excited to collaborate with AlleyCorp and ENG(INE) to accelerate our work. With their help we are building tools that will change how justice-impacted individuals move through the criminal justice system, improving outcomes for them and their communities.”

CEO,

Project Goals:

Harnessing the power of AI and ML, AlleyCorp and ENG(INE) will amplify the impact of Mobile Pathways' Pathfinder platform, which helps immigrants and their advocates navigate our legal system. Their combined expertise will accelerate the adoption of Pathfinder to drive better case outcomes, faster work authorizations, and help ensure fair access to justice for all immigrants in court.

“We are grateful for ENG(INE)’s support to ensure advanced technology is accessible to all, not just those who can afford it. This collaboration will provide more immigrants with crucial information to help shape their futures.“
